In 1972, Fred retired and sold the company to the Schaefer Family. Under the leadership of president, Donald W. Schaefer, the company has continued its longstanding tradition of providing the same outstanding service and quality to businesses large and small. The company continues to be family-owned and operated.

In 2005, Winding Roofing acquired W.J. Butzen Roofing & Sheet Metal, which was founded by William J. (Bill) Butzen in 1979. This merger has added the architectural sheet metal and panel expertise of the former Butzen Roofing to the Winding Roofing list of in-house capabilities.
